Moss Nook Honey was founded in 2019 by Harry Simpson. Harry and his dad (Jon), started off as novice beekeepers with one beehive and a nucleus colony of bees. After really enjoying the bees in his first year as a beekeeper, he then decided to grow the number of bees that he had. After a further two years of beekeeping Harry was then able to have a total of seven beehives, full of bees, each hive containing around 60,000 bees. He then decided to sell the honey the bees had produced to local people so that they would be able to taste the honey and gain all the health benefits that comes with consuming local honey. The demand for the honey took Harry by surprise, instantly selling out within a few hours of announcing the honey was for sale.
Harry then decided that he would expand Moss Nook Honey into selling 6 frame nucleus colonies of bees and beehives, so that more people would be able to become beekeepers in the UK. Harry also believed that beekeeping equipment was far too expensive in the UK, and this was a primary reason to why there was less beekeepers than there could be. So, he then decided to construct his own beehives, offering people the chance to purchase beehives at affordable prices, fully constructed with assembled frames as well. This making it easy for new beekeepers to get started in becoming hobbyist beekeepers, as all they would need to do is add the bees to their beehive.
At Moss Nook Honey we have a range of different beekeeping products, from our cedar fully constructed hives with assembled frames with wired beeswax foundation, to our flat packed hives and beekeeping equipment.
We also sell bees, offering a variety of different size colonies, from British standard national hives and 6 frames nucleus colonies to commercial colonies.
We sell the honey that our bees produce. We take up to three harvests of honey per hive each year. All the proceeds from the sale of the honey goes towards making more nucleus bees so that more people can start beekeeping, allowing the British bee population to be restored.
We offer commercial farmers across the UK the opportunity to use our beehives to help pollinate their crops. This then allows the farmers to gain far higher yields of up to 25% on certain crops as taking the bees to the crops will allow for a better pollination success rate per flower.
Moss Nook Honey allows people and businesses the opportunity to adopt a hive, allowing them the satisfaction to know that they are helping the bees without becoming a beekeeper themselves. We send regular updates to the adoptee on how their beehive is progressing. By sponsoring a hive or adopting a hive as a business we can then create a plaque with the company’s name, logo, and website on. We take lots of photos of our beehives and post them on Instagram giving businesses good promotion.
At Moss Nook Honey we recognize that companies and small businesses do not have the time to run their own apery of beehives, so we offer a bespoke installation of beehives to the business’s location, and we manage the hives all year round. The beauty of this is that they will be able to use the local honey. For restaurants having their own beehives is an added bonus and gives them the competitive edge over others.
Additionally, we know how complicated nature can be at times, so we offer free advice on beekeeping to fellow beekeepers, regardless of whether you decide to purchase any of our beehives or equipment. Our aim is simply to get more people into beekeeping and make it as easy as possible to become a beekeeper.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
